Questions about stone
Plain answers to what people ask us most. For more depth, read the Stone Guide.
Buying stone
Why does Akrruthi not publish prices?
Price depends on the stone, its grade, the lot and your layout. A number on a website would mislead more than it helps. We quote once you have chosen your slabs.
How do I know the delivered slabs are mine?
At Akrruthi you tag the slabs you choose; we photograph them and deliver that lot. Check the tags when they arrive.
Can I order a little more later?
You can, but it will rarely match: a new lot differs in shade and veining. Order everything for one area at once.
Should I keep spare pieces?
Yes. A few spare pieces from the same lot make future repairs invisible.
Why do some stones say 'Origin: confirmed on enquiry'?
Some trade names are used for stone from more than one country. Where we have not yet confirmed the source, we say so rather than guess. Ask us and we will tell you what the supplier documents show.
Is cheaper 'Italian' marble really Italian?
Not always. Many stones are sold under Italian-sounding names. Ask for the quarry region and see the slabs. Akrruthi sells each stone under its true origin.
Stone types
Is imported marble better than Indian marble?
Not by default. It offers colours and veining Indian quarries do not, and it usually needs more care. Choose by the room, the look you want and how much maintenance you will do.
How do I know a marble is really Italian?
Ask for the quarry region and look at the full slab, not a polished sample. Akrruthi names the region for every stone on this page, and shows the actual slabs you will receive. Stones of uncertain origin are listed under imported marble, never here.
Is granite better than marble for a kitchen counter?
Yes, for a kitchen that is cooked in every day. Granite resists heat, knives and acids. Marble etches when lemon or tamarind touches it.
What is the difference between granite and quartzite?
Both are hard natural stones. Quartzite is a metamorphic stone formed from sandstone; it is very hard but can be more porous than granite, so it should be sealed. The trade sometimes sells quartzites as granite.
Why is onyx used with lights behind it?
Onyx lets light through. Lit from behind, its bands and clouds show as a warm glow that no other stone gives. Unlit, it reads as a strongly patterned stone.
Is Jaisalmer marble really marble?
No. It is a limestone. The trade name 'Jaisalmer marble' is common, but Akrruthi describes it as what it is.
Is Italian marble always better?
No. It is different: finer and softer, with veining many people want. Indian marble is often the more practical choice for large floors.
Care
How often should marble be sealed?
On installation, then about once a year for floors and more often for vanities. A simple test: if water darkens the stone within minutes, it is time to reseal.
Can I use floor cleaner from the supermarket?
Only if it says pH-neutral and safe for natural stone. Many contain acids or bleach.
Does imported marble need sealing?
Most do. Seal on installation and then about once a year, wipe spills quickly and clean with a neutral cleaner. Each stone page lists its own maintenance.
Does marble stain in a bathroom?
Hair dye, cosmetics and some soaps can mark it. Seal it, wipe spills quickly and clean with a neutral cleaner.
Which finish hides scratches?
Honed and leather hide fine scratches far better than polished.
Delivery
Do you deliver outside Karnataka?
Yes. Akrruthi delivers across India. Transit time depends on the city; ask when you enquire.
Can my architect join the video call?
Yes. Share the link with anyone who should help you choose.
Can I choose slabs without coming to Bengaluru?
Yes. Book a video slab selection. We show you the actual slabs, you choose, and we tag and photograph each one before dispatch.
Visiting
Which store should I visit?
Akrruthi Marble in Jigani for Italian and imported marble, onyx and travertine; Akrruthi, Jigani for granite and Indian marble; Akrruthi Stones on Bannerghatta Road for Kota, sandstone, Tandur and Jaisalmer. The stores page has addresses and directions.
What should I bring to a stone selection visit?
Your floor plan or room sizes, photographs of the site, and samples of anything the stone will sit beside. Bring your architect or contractor if you can.
