Natural and sandblasted stone

What are natural and sandblasted finishes?

A natural or riven finish keeps the stone's split face, with its ridges and texture. A sandblasted finish is made by blasting the surface with fine abrasive, leaving an even, matt texture. Both give grip outdoors and are the usual choices for sandstone paving, garden paths, pool surrounds and facades. Colours look soft and matt.

Questions about the natural and sandblasted finish

Is riven sandstone uneven to walk on?

It has a natural texture of a few millimetres. Calibrated stone is more even; ask for it on paths and patios.

Does sandblasting change the colour?

It makes the colour look softer and more matt than a honed or polished face.
