Granite and Indian Marble

Imported granite and quartzite

When is imported granite worth choosing?

Imported granites and quartzites are statement stones: deep blues, greens and strongly patterned slabs from Brazil, Ukraine, Norway and Madagascar. They are chosen for a kitchen island, a bar top or a feature wall where one slab is the centre of the room. Some are quartzites, which are hard but need sealing.

Questions about imported granite and quartzite

What is the difference between granite and quartzite?

Both are hard natural stones. Quartzite is a metamorphic stone formed from sandstone; it is very hard but can be more porous than granite, so it should be sealed. The trade sometimes sells quartzites as granite.

Should I see the slab before buying a statement stone?

Always. Pattern and colour vary from slab to slab. Choose and tag the exact slabs for your island or wall.
